Centre Stage HR People. Culture. Performance.

About

Driven by people, shaped by experience.

Centre Stage HR was founded to offer a different kind of people support: commercially grounded, genuinely human and shaped around the realities of each organisation.

Founder

Meet Carol Newton

I have spent 16+ years working with people, leaders and organisations, helping them navigate change, build positive cultures and manage some of the most difficult moments that arise at work.

My career began within performing arts education before developing into senior HR leadership across a national entertainment group. As Head of People and Culture, I supported a diverse workforce of approximately 2,000 people across theatres, productions, ticketing, education, streaming and central business functions.

That experience gave me a deep understanding of both the human and commercial sides of organisational life. I know that leaders rarely need lengthy theory when a challenging situation lands on their desk. They need someone calm, experienced and practical who will understand the wider context, ask the right questions and help them move forward with confidence.

I created Centre Stage HR to provide exactly that kind of support.

Why “Centre Stage”?

Every successful organisation depends on its people, but people considerations are often pushed into the background until something goes wrong.

Centre Stage HR exists to bring them forward.

That does not mean putting process ahead of performance. It means helping organisations create the clarity, confidence and culture their people need to do their best work.

The name also reflects my roots in theatre and live entertainment — industries where collaboration, preparation, trust and performance matter every day. Those lessons are equally valuable in organisations of every kind.

When people are supported well, organisations perform better.

How I work

Professional Without Being Corporate

Centre Stage HR offers the expertise and judgement of senior HR leadership through a more personal, flexible and accessible relationship.

  • Practical

Advice must work in the real world. Recommendations are clear, proportionate and shaped by what your organisation can realistically implement.

  • Human

Workplace decisions affect people, confidence and relationships. Difficult issues can be handled properly while preserving dignity and respect.

  • Commercial

Good HR supports organisational performance. Advice balances people considerations with operational needs, risk and long-term sustainability.

  • Collaborative

The aim is not to take decisions away from leaders. It is to help them understand their options, strengthen their judgement and move forward confidently.

Rooted in theatre. Relevant far beyond it.

Theatre and live performance are a genuine area of specialism for Centre Stage HR.

Productions and creative organisations often work at speed, rely on a mix of employees, freelancers and casual workers, and operate within demanding schedules where standard corporate approaches do not always fit.

Understanding that environment means Centre Stage HR can offer credible, practical support from the outset.

However, the consultancy is not limited to the creative industries. The same experience is valuable to small businesses, charities, education providers and growing organisations that need an HR partner who can quickly understand their world and provide proportionate support.

You do not need to work in theatre to work with Centre Stage HR. You simply need to value thoughtful, practical and commercially aware people support.

You do not need to arrive with a perfectly defined brief.

Whether you are dealing with a difficult situation, reviewing your current people practices or simply need an experienced sounding board, we can begin by talking through what is happening and what good support could look like.
